The showers are very Bad and full with animals. The owner John is a very aggressive and bad person, he only wants your money and when you Leave, he doesn‘t give you the deposit for the dishes back. He screams a lot on the hard working people so when you want to work in Good conditions, don‘t Go there!

When we left he told us that he will transfer the deposit for the dishes to our bank accounts. After 3 weeks without any money, we visited him and tried to get back the deposit. He started yelling at us because one of my friends was „cocky“ (quote of John) to him, so he pushed all of us out of his office and we never saw the deposit.

Never go to this working hostel! As a guy you get a Job very fast and the work is okay , but the accomodation is very dirty! You live there with a lot of animals ,the kitchen is very old and Most of the Equipment doesn‘t work. Furthermore you have to cook with 20 People on one stove.

It's a little further out of town than the other hostels but I liked it because it meant I didn't go in town as often and spend so much money! Plus management does shuttle runs to town to go to coles daily.

Furthermore his assistant Sam is very unfriendly and can’t drive safely.

Tried to do farm work before in Bundaberg and had a horrific time! Came to Walkabout and had the best time here... having a good hostel really makes such a difference to farm work and helps you get through the hard work! So so glad I came here!! 100% recommend

Kitchens do get destroyed every night, but that's because it's a working hostel and after a solid day of farm work people can't be bothered to clean up after themselves, but the kitchen gets a massive spotless clean every morning. Plenty of fridge space and even includes ovens not just hobs!

It's one of the cleanest hostels I've ever stayed at- daily cleaning (incl. kitchen and bathrooms) plus a fortnightly deep cleaning of all rooms which also included steam cleaning of beds so there's never an issue with bed bugs etc.

As for management I think they do a great job of making sure people don't kill themselves after smashing too much goon on a Friday night! They also make sure people keep the noise down when there's work the next morning so you can still get a good sleep before work. I for one was grateful for Sam! Absolute life saver! There's even an area at the hostel you can party at all hours no problem so you get the best of both worlds.

When I called John, the owner, he told us that we can start work the next days, and we could start one day after we arrived. This is one of the only positiv aspects of this hostel. The work was very hard at the beginning, like John explained us, but you get into it very fast. I worked for five weeks, with a deep cut in my hand, while rain and heat. So John, you can’t say I quit my job because it was too hard for me.

I'd definitely recommend this hostel if you're needing to get your three months farm work done. I was recommend the hostel by some girls I met in WA who had done their three months last year. They told me I'd get work and however long John would tell me I'd have to wait, that's how long I'd have to wait, which was bang on. My friend and I were told a week to ten days and managed to get work within a week. Speaking to other backpackers staying at other working hostels in town, they had to wait a lot longer and were more often than not given the run around.

Really enjoyed my time here at Walkabout! If you want to do your farm work definitely come here, there has been no problems for anyone I know getting signed off plus the hostel itself is a fun and social place to be. Couldn't have imagined doing my 13 weeks anywhere else.

The kitchen and rooms are dirty with a lot of insects like cockroaches and frogs. Stoves are dirty and only 2 of 6 work. The mattresses are very thin and your back hurts after a few nights.
